Open RQC colloquium. Lecture 50


The Fiftieth lecture "Can quantum physics break cryptography's curse? ("Может ли квантовая физика снять порчу с криптографии?")" in Open RQC Colloquium will be held in National University of Science and Technology MISIS (Moscow, Leninsky Avenue, 4) conference hall № Б-607 (6th floor, the professors' entrance)on 15th of February 2019 at 10:00 a.m by Vadim Makarov, head of the Quantum hacking lab at the Russian Quantum Center and MISiS University, Moscow.



ATTENTION! The colloquium will be at the Conference Hall Б-607 on the 6th floor, the entrance to the building will be from the professors' entrance!

Abstract

The history of cryptography is a history of failures. Stronger ciphers replaced broken ones, to be in turn broken again. Quantum cryptography offers a hope to end this replacement cycle, for its security premises on the laws of physics and not on limitations of human ingenuity and computing. The speaker will tell about ongoing deployment of quantum cryptography networks using fiber-optic and satellite links, and efforts to certify their implementation as secure.

Biography

Dr. Vadim Makarov heads the Quantum hacking lab http://www.vad1.com/lab/ at the Russian Quantum Center and MISiS University, Moscow, where he tests commercial quantum cryptography systems for implementation loopholes. Vadim is a visiting professor of Shanghai Institute for Advanced Studies, University of Science and Technology of China. He has published about 45 journal articles, 47 refereed conference abstracts, citations total ~3500.
