Open RQC colloquium. Lecture 48


The Forty Eighth lecture "When random walkers help solving intriguing integrals" in Open RQC Colloquium will be held in National University of Science and Technology MISIS (Moscow, Leninsky Avenue, 4) conference hall № Б-534on 7th of December 2018 at 10:00 a.m by Emmanuel Trizac, full Professor of theoretical physics and a member of Institut Universitaire de France.






Abstract

Discussion the properties of a family of integrals involving the cardinal sine fuction, first studied by Borwein & Borwein. The aim is to provide a physicist's perspective onto a curious change of behaviour occurring within this family, noticed when benchmarking computer algebra packages, and initially attributed to a bug. A number of non-trivial generalizations will be obtained.

Biography

Emmanuel Trizac received his PhD in Ecole normale supérieure de Lyon in 1997, where he had graduated in 1994. After a post-doctorate at AMOLF in Amsterdam, he joined the University Paris-Sud in 1998 as an assistant professor. He was a visiting scholar in University of California at San Diego in 2005-2006, and an invited professor in the University of Barcelona in 2007 and 2010. He now is a full professor of theoretical physics, and a member of Institut Universitaire de France. His research pertains to soft condensed matter, and non equilibrium statistical physics. He has co-authored 140 publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Since 2012, he heads the Theoretical and Statistical Models Laboratory (LPTMS), a joint CNRS/Paris-Sud unit.
